Notes
Due to an increase of tourist heading to this canyon it has been renamed 'Raise' after the hill feeding it. ⚠️ Short lag time ⚠️ this canyon levels responds rapidly to precipitation, if heavy rain is forecast expect levels to rise fast! The 1X 20m rope is for the hand lines to access the abseils which is strongly recommended, however not essential for the descent. Popular river with tourist! Lot's of loose rock.
Description
Free Parking at (54.5473191, -3.0586624). Walk along the road towards the pub and campsite, the footpath heads straight through the campsite however it is obscure, when you get to the main track that follows the wall, turn left and head slightly uphill until the path forks, turn right and the track will lead you up hill and to the start of the canyon, get in where the fence crosses the river. The descent starts off very easy going and progressively gets more challenging throughout. Some abseils are in the flow whilst others completely avoid it. Most anchors are in good condition however inspection prior to use is essential! Some of the deep pools are popular with tourist so you may encounter a few on the descent. All the pools should be checked as most are only marginal. Exit at the bridge TL, follow path back to car.

Canyon Experience :

29/11/2022

A great canyon with good quality rigging throughout. Walk in time, decent time and walk our time are pretty accurate deepening on your group size. 2 of you, perfect, any more, add some extra descent time.

I can imagine it getting quite busy in summer with tourists as access is pretty easy. Farmer who’s land you access across is plainly not on board due to the large signs saying ‘no footpath, no access’ however there is a clearly signposted and labelled Lake District route. Certainly worth the canyoning community proposing a small access fee to keep the land owner on side and prevent future access issues perhaps? Its standard for my caving trips, why not canyoning?

If you go late morning / early afternoon you can get some epic photos as the sun comes around and lights upon the falls and route all the way down.

A brilliant little canyon, definitely one of the best in the lakes, whoever goes in next, please bring some webbing to replace some damaged tat.
