Notes
Call dam operator on 0800 975 6660 to find out the likelihood of imminent release prior to a descent, Use the name Afon Porth Llywd to avoid confusion. Be aware the land owners prohibits canyoning in this gorge!. Extreme flash flood risk, with no prior indicators. When the water level is high at the reservoir, the tipper gate will cause a wall of water to flow down the canyon which could take anyone off their feet. This has resulted in one fatality so far.
If you are going in regardless of the warnings please check the tipper gate at the reservoir at the top to see the water level in comparison to the tipper gate, the water level should be nowhere near the tipper gate. Even this offers no guarantee of avoiding the flash flood risk during your trip, as water level may still rise due to rainfall or movement of water between the network of other reservoirs into this one.
