Summery
This canyon is usually done as a gorge scramble (ascent). It can be scrambled relatively easily with a rope, however immediate exit in the second half becomes difficult. NRW and landowners have specifically said abseiling the big waterfall will not be tolerated due to damage to the biodiversity and rare species present in this gorge. Easy bypass river left. Do enter the water/ avoid the fish spawning sites at the bottom of the gorge for obvious reasons. Extreme caution is needed if entering this gorge due to access issues and surge flood risk. Make yourself aware of the North Wales Gorge Users Agreement. (see about page)
Notes
Surge flood risk, with no prior indicators. Water levels can go from low to impassable in a matter of minutes. If water levels rise, exit canyon IMMEDIATELY. Discussions are currently ongoing between local residents, the council and NRW (Natural Resources Wales). Several complaints have been made against users. To help improve these discussions and avoid further restrictions please follow the North Wales Gorge Users Agreement and these additional guidelines: 1. Be considerate when parking. 2. Get changed out of sight of the road and residents. 3. Use the public toilets down the road at Surf Snowdonia/ Trefriw and avoid going to the toilet in the trees or bushes. 4. Don't sleep in your vehicle overnight near the canyon. 5. Keep noise down whilst in the area, be polite to everyone you see, do not respond to any aggression/ abuse.
