No pre-existing anchors are present in this canyon, if you can't find anything to anchor off of, you always have to option to escape and climb down. Possible in higher flows.

Description

Approach by Car: Ample parking just off the A82 near the bridge over the Coe and turn of for the Clachaig. Approach by foot: From the car park walk back onto the road towards Fort William and cross over the bridge, immediately after the bridge is a gate that leads you to a well built footpath that leads you to the top of the canyon. Canyon entry: Enter the canyon at the top waterfall, The footpath keeps climbing but heads into the valley, this is when you need to get in. Canyon descent: The top section is open with boulders being the most common anchor, the lower section has a deeper feel but completely escapable, lots of trees to choose from as anchors in this section. Exit: The canyon comes to an obvious end, lots of small, open DC's head back on the path and back to the car park. Escapes: Always possible through out. §

Canyon Experience :

Did this one last night. Very scenic walk up to it. The levels were fairly low but the water was ice cold snow melt which made many of the abseils pretty punchy.

There are now two bolts at DC – 9m & at A2 (50m) waterfall, both obvious river right. A2 is closer to 40m in height, there are sharp edges to watch out for on this one.

Couple trees on the lower section are useful as natural anchors but consider retrieval options as some of the waterfalls twist & there were a few logs and branches down. All abseils can be climbed out & around.

Descended on 23rd August 2023. Anchor options are limited in the upper section. Managing rope abrasion can be difficult at times due to the use of natural anchors. Descended a day after heavy rain which caused flooding in the area, levels seem to rise and fall quickly.
