Description

Parking: Big layby, plenty of space. Check levels: Can check levels at the bottom Safe levels: Bottom should look relatively wide and tame. Most abseils aren’t very aquatic but some pools could be tricky in higher flow Approach: 40 mins. Cross the River Lyon at car park if levels allow. Follow path to bottom of canyon then start hiking up the side of canyon on river right. After 50m there’s a gap in the fence to cross. Traverse away from the canyon for a few hundred metres until you meet the forestry track. Follow this all the way up to the get-in. Get-in: Here. Enter at the wooden bridge where the two rivers above confluence. Exit: Can continue all the way to the bottom. Climb out at lower bridge.

Fantastic canyon! Bridge has been replaced, a lot of tree fall but makes for some super careful rigging and overall a great canyon.

All jumps jumped, all slides slide!

04/07/26 – Team of 2

Really fun canyon to ghost through, with a few bolts in places. Just be careful where you step, lots of slippery rocks and logs.

The bridge at the put in has been removed, and will be replaced in the future. So that landmark isn’t available anymore.

None of the Absails are particularly large.

Some Beta notes from the trip:
A1 – Off a Tree river left
A2 – Log jam, didn’t really go down scramble wise. Went through the gap River left
A3 – Bolted, pair river left
A4 – Natural anchor in tree pile up TL 4?m
A5 – Main Falls, large tree down the middle that has some slings on it from others. We used our own.
A6 – Bolted river left, there is a single bolt for a handline potentially behind a rock by the pool before.
A7 – Natural Anchor off tree – Jumpable when we were there, but check the pool.
A8 – Natural anchor TL horizontal branch
A9 – Flat angle, probably fine to down climb, but played safe as it’s slippery. Tree river right.

Descended team of 3 on 20th April 25. Cool canyon with lots of interesting features. Many many trees down within the canyon, making for fun ghosting, but heavy tree jams and some jumps had trees in the pools, making them unjumpable. Check pools before jumping. Still a good trip
